Youth Winter Retreat 2017

This past weekend (January 20, 21st) approximately 30 of our youth and adult chaperones attended our 5th annual Winter Retreat.  It was an amazing weekend full of worship, meaningful service work and fellowship while sharing their faith with so many!!

Lynne Heneghan led worship with the Elkhorn Hills UMC youth praise team Friday night, Saturday night, and both services on Sunday morning.   Members of the congregation joined us for worship throughout the weekend.

Lynne Heneghan is a team leader for Next Step Ministries.  Elkhorn Hills UMC met Lynne at a summer mission trip about 6 years ago.  Lynne has become part of our Elkhorn Hills family ever since, and we have been blessed to have her speak at our Winter Retreats.  Plus, we got to help her celebrate her recent engagement!!

Lynne’s message this weekend was “Follow” and how we should seek to follow Jesus everyday, the cost of following Jesus, and what some of our struggles are that keep us from following Him.  He is worth it.

Luke 9:59-61 says:

Then He said to another, “Follow me” but he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”  Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach to the kingdom of God.”

Service Opportunities

2017 Winter Youth Retreat attendees

Early Saturday morning the youth boarded a bus to take them to Heartland Hope Mission.  There they helped serve many families by:  stocking shelves for groceries, bagging fruits and vegetables, carrying-out groceries, providing childcare, sorting clothing, and serving food.  This was quite a learning opportunity for those who had never been to Heartland Hope before.  Everyone worked hard and had fun.

After leaving Heartland Hope, our youth ate their sack lunches during the ride back to Elkhorn Hills UMC.  Upon returning, they got right to work preparing 700 enchiladas to raise funds for summer mission trips!  (Sorry, no pictures during this time.)
