RECAP: 2017 Chili Cookoff

The sights and smells wafting from the Family Life Center last Sunday were sweetly delicious of the more than fifteen competing chili’s and also mildly bitter, as we could only crown one grand champion. There were far more smiles than frowns to go around, however, as this years chili cook off as attendees fluttered from table to table to see what aromatic concoction they were able to taste next. I was amazed at how many variations there could be on a simple bowl of chili! Competitors ranged from the deep red ground beef to the white chicken variety. We had sweet, spicy, savory, and I think even a smoky flavored chili. Regardless of your taste for the cold-weather recipe, it is safe to say no one left unsatisfied, or hungry.

Scott Avery took the reigns as our ‘un-official’ MC of the afternoon. Jumping on stage to ‘alert’ everyone of upcoming announcements, he was also awarding drawing winners of their door prizes ranging from a clock to Storm Chaser tickets. When he wasn’t calling us to attention, he was grabbing candid photo opportunities and collecting best winner ticket entries.
