Sunday, June 11th was the last worship service Pastor Nancy Davis will preside over at Elkhorn Hills UMC. It was a special service filled with her favorite music. Altar flowers were in honor of Pastor Nancy with the message:
You have blessed us with your ministry. May God bless you in your retirement.
At her request, special music (Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah) was performed by Music Director Tyler Hughes and Blake and Melissa Smith. Dear friend, Gayle Preston, delivered the morning prayer giving specific thanks for Pastor Nancy’s service to Christ and guidance for her next phase of life. Finally, SPRC representative Brian Spangler recognized Pastor Nancy for her service, ministry and friendship and presented her with a special gift on behalf of the Elkhorn Hills UMC family.
Message “It Is Time”
Pastor Nancy’s message was a personal one in which she recounted her 33 year ministry of 9 churches throughout Missouri and Nebraska. She told funny stories, detailed obstacles she overcame in becoming a pastor, highlighted accomplishments, cited disappointments, and provided insight into her various duties throughout her service to the ministry of Jesus Christ. She was joined in worship by her husband Pastor Bruce Davis, her son, daughter-in-law, and three granddaughters. She spoke about how she is looking forward to the new challenges of being a pastor’s wife.
To the children she stressed the importance of lifting up the pastor of our church and encouraged us all to say to our new pastor, “Welcome Pastor Rebecca. We are glad you’re here.”
The Reverend Nancy Davis was granted retirement status by the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church on June 8th at the Great Plains Annual Conference. Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr. recognized the ministries of the 39 clergy retiring effective the end of the appointive year on June 30 during a special dinner event. The Rev. Jim Reed served as host for the event, a “pinning” in which new retirees receive a branded United Methodist retired clergy pin; and a congratulatory affirmation of “well done, good and faithful servant.”
Pastor Nancy performed the sacrament of baptism of Hannah Jo, daughter of Cory and Sami Zelfel. Baptism is a sacrament of God’s grace and a covenant that God has initiated. A large contingent of Zelfel’s were present for the sacred event.
May the Lord give His angel charge over you, to guide you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11
Following the service, a celebratory potluck was held in the Elkhorn Hills UMC Family Life Center. The church provided fried chicken and members of the congregation provided sides and desserts. A special cake was presented to Pastor Nancy by Dick and Cheryl Parcher.
