“Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing…”
There are so many wonderful opportunities coming our way this holiday season. We pray that you and your family will be able to join us as we celebrate the birth of Christ and what it means for our world and our lives.
This month we have many special events and service opportunities, but I want to highlight a few for you –
First, our Children’s Christmas Program: The Evening News Hour presented by our Elkhorn Hills kids on Sunday, December 16th at 9:30am in the Sanctuary. It will be a wonderful morning of worship and a great opportunity to bring a guest! That morning we will also have the Cookie Walk that helps fund scholarships for preschool children in the hallways of the Education Wing – so, come ready to buy a tray and support a great cause!
Second, we have an All-Church Movie Matinee on Sunday, December 2nd at 3pm at the Village Pointe Movie Theater. We’ll be watching the new animated film “The Grinch” and it looks hilarious! Tickets are $6.50 for kids and adults and must pre-purchased. Kiddy Trays (concessions) will also be provided by the Children’s Ministry Committee for the kids in attendance. It will be a great afternoon to relax and laugh and remember the joy of this season as we share a little love and kindness with even the Grinch!
Third, we also have “We Adore Him” Advent Sermon Series. During Advent we are doing a Sermon Series called We Adore Him that is based on the opening of John’s gospel. Now, traditionally we read Matthew and Luke during this season, but this year we’re going to explore John’s perspective. I find that John has a really beautiful way of sharing what the love of God has done through Jesus Christ, and I think that you’ll find it inspiring as you prepare to come and adore him this Christmas as well.
In his opening John reminds us that Jesus came as The Word, The Creator, The Light, The One Who Brought Grace and Truth, God with Us, God’s Glory. We’ll be starting the series on December 2nd and it will take us all the way through December 30th. It’s going to be a great opportunity to look a little more closely at this tiny baby in the manger and all that his birth means for us and for the world! We hope you will join us!
I also want to say, “THANK YOU!” for all that you have done to support our neighbors during this season! The altar area is overflowing with your generous donations for the Food Baskets that are being put together by the Western Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. And more than 50 children and adults have already been sponsored by our congregation for the COPE Christmas Party in early December – wow, wow, wow! We will also be celebrating the Habitat for Humanity House Dedication on December 9th at 2pm in Waterloo! Thank you for making this season a bit brighter for so many individuals and families in our community!
May the hope, peace, joy, and love of Jesus Christ fill your hearts and your homes this Advent & Christmas Season!
With great joy,
Pastor Rebecca Hjelle
