The Rev. Joel N. Coleman has been named as the new program director at Camp Fontanelle, located near Nickerson, Nebraska.
Coleman has been in full-time ministry since 2005, serving Pine Grove United Methodist Church in York, Pennsylvania, and Knoxville Yoked & Austinburg UMC in Knoxville, Pennsylvania. Prior to this, he served a number of congregations as a youth pastor and counseled and directed in a variety of settings with children and youth, including in specialized settings such as Philhaven Hospital (a psychiatric facility for children & youth) and Schaffner Shelter Care Program.
He graduated from Millersville University in Pennsylvania with special education and elementary education degrees. He continued his education at Drew Theological School in New Jersey, where he obtained a masters in divinity degree. In 2009, he became a fully ordained Elder in the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. In high school Coleman was first called to ministry at Camp Penn, Pennsylvania and throughout his life he has discovered the incredible impact Christ can have through camp and retreat ministry on people’s lives.
Joel has been married to his wife Niki for 12 years and they have twin 7-year old boys. Brenden loves making people laugh and going on adventures with his family and friends. Kaiden enjoys playing soccer and is huge collector of Pokemon. Niki has used her background in education to homeschool the children. She loves reading, crafting and cooking, and currently works as a Jamberry consultant.
Coleman sees his role of leadership at Camp Fontanelle as a way to offering his gifts and experience to enhance and build upon the camps current success. He also desires to learn from others and wants to be actively engaged in the trenches with them. He hopes to have a positive influence in this role, as he attempts to nurture people into developing their own unique set of gifts for the kingdom of God. He is so blessed to share in the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church.
