Garage Sale

Everyone loves a good sale, right?  The folks at Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church especially love garage sales.  For the last six years, the members of the church have held a HUGE church-wide garage sale to raise money for their various mission projects.  Elkhorn Hills UMC is considered a “mission” church, which means to go beyond their church walls to serve others.  They do this with adult and youth mission trips within the Omaha metropolitan area, the state of Nebraska, the United States (Oklahoma City; OK; Joplin, MO; Moore, OK, etc) and the world (Africa, Jamaica, Haiti).

The goal is to raise money for a variety of mission projects, but also to support the Elkhorn community.  The sale provides gently used items to the public at a good price.  All items are priced to sell!  It’s great for school shopping as all clothing is priced at $1 per item.  Throughout the years, the Elkhorn Community has been very supportive of the sale.

Additionally, as testified by Lena Beeson, “The garage sale is also a great opportunity for our members to get better acquainted.  They make friends and have a lot of fun.  It has helped to build camaraderie within the congregation.

The annual Elkhorn Hills Garage Sale for Missions takes place in late August in the Family Life Center of their church building at 20227 Veterans Drive, Elkhorn, and runs from Thursday thru Saturday.   All items are half-price on Saturday and at 10 am the “brown bag sale” begins.  Everyone is given a brown grocery bag as they enter.  Whatever they can fit in the bag is $3 per bag.  Elkhorn Hills UMC thanks Dino’s Storage for working with us to store furniture donations before the sale.
