Our Elkhorn Hills Missions Committee has been very busy. Here is an update on some of their recent events. Selling SCRIP cards is one way the Missions Committee earns money for these projects. Stop by the SCRIP table to purchase cards after both services every Sunday.
One of the most frequent questions we get asked about the garage sale is “where does all the money go?” The majority of the money raised at the garage sale is used to support Mission projects at Elkhorn Hills. This year, the garage sale raised just over $11,000. Mission projects supported by this year’s sale include: $2,000 to Mission Shares, $1,500 to COPE, $1,000 to NUMB, and $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity. An additional $1,000 was left in the a general Mission account for the Missions Committee to use at their discretion throughout the year as other needs arise.
An additional $2,500 from this year’s sale was sent to Camp Fontanelle to their Branching Out Campaign. This capital campaign is focused on building a year round retreat and worship center at Camp which would provide more opportunities to reach youth and adults for Christ.
Finally, $2,000 from the garage sale proceeds were given to the Trustees. We know that the Trustees’ expenses increase over the period of time that we are working on and holding the sale. We run the air conditioner almost continually for 2 weeks, we use extra supplies and the general “traffic” in the FLC takes a beating on the flooring. The funds that we donate are to help the Trustees cover these expenses.
LuAnn Dritley is our Garage Sale Chairperson. If you have questions about the distribution of proceeds, please don’t hesitate to contact her.
Camp Fontanelle Branching Out Campaign
There is a saying that if you build they will come! Here at Camp Fontanelle they are coming and we need to build. There is a need like never before for our children to experience camp. With a busy world with a constant barrage of worldly messages on electronic devices, there is need for “Be still and know God”.
God is always trying to speak, but we often don’t hear or listen. Listening and hearing happen at camp. Jesus shared in the parable of the lost sheet that it is worth searching for saving just 1 lost sheep. This past summer 140 children indicated they accepted Christ for the first time!!! I invite you to prayerfully consider how you might make an impact in the Branching Out campaign to allow even more campers to hear God’s voice at Camp Fontanelle and make a difference here in eastern Nebraska and the world. May God bless you in obedience to God’s calling.
Knit & Sew Group
Project Warm Up Omaha is in full swing. Knit & Sew coordinated this mission project in 2017 and are taking on this project again this fall. They are accepting donations of hats & blankets for all ages, plus new socks for adults. The drop off point is in the narthex. They will continue to receive your donations through mid-October.
Last year five non-profit organizations benefited from Elkhorn Hills generous donations. More than 200 people in our city were warmer thanks to you. It looks like we may help more stay warmer this year. Thank you for all the donations to date.
