Girl Donates hair to Wigs for Kids!

Bailey Klanderud’s last haircut was a doozy!  Ten inches of her hair was cut to help children suffering from cancer or other sources of hair loss look themselves and live their lives.  This is the third time that Bailey has donated her hair.  She says, “It’s an easy way to help someone…Besides, my hair is a renewable resource.”

Wigs for Kids never charges families for hair replacements, which typically is valued at $1,800.  “These are custom-made Hair Replacements,” says Jeffrey Paul. “Each prosthesis is hand-tied and is made completely from human hair. We make sure they look just like a child’s own hair.”

Wigs for Kids is a cooperative effort among Certified Cosmetic Therapists throughout North America who share a common goal. “Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they look, especially when they’re in the middle of a health crisis,” says Jeffrey Paul. “We want to give these kids the opportunity to feel good about themselves again.”

The Elkhorn South Marching Blue and Gold band competed in the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association (NSBA) State competition on Saturday, October 20, where they took home a seventh-place finish. The band competed against 16 other schools from the metro area, with Gretna taking home highest honors as State Champions.

The show titled, “Butterfly Effect” was chosen this year to musically and visually show that small changes can have large impacts on the world around us.   “I’m incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and persistence this year,” said Dr. Michele Bluford, director of Bands, Elkhorn South High School.

The band will now move into concert band season. Many students will also participate in jazz band, show band, pit orchestra, winter drumline, pep band, honor bands and various school sponsored music competitions.  Click here to read the entire article from the DC Post Gazette.
