We devoted the sermon this week to prayer. One of the most well known prayers–one which we say every Sunday–is the Lord’s Prayer. Pastor Nancy talked about when we should pray. The answer to that is to pray all the time. We should pray before meals to give thanks for food. We should pray in times of trouble for guidance and help. We should pray before we go to bed and to give thanks for all the blessings in our life. In the bulletin, we were provided an insert with the Lord’s Prayer and the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen

Representatives from this year’s NUMB Ride were commissioned during the 9 am service and blessed by the congregation with the following prayer.
Gracious God, as we send these NUMB riders and workers to serve you and your people we ask your blessings upon them and upon all the people they will meet during this journey. Let the light of your love shine through their actions as well as their words. Return them safely to us. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Brett Ritter spoke to the children about hunger and the purpose of the NUMB Ride. He led the children in a prayer to be thankful for the food we have to eat and to help us help others who don’t have enough food.
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
The service closed with the congregation saying this prayer.
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
