Knit & Sew Group

The Knit and Sew Group meets on the 3rd Friday of each month from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon.  The first meeting this year is Friday, September 18.
Their first project for the Fall  will be organizing the school supplies for our school bags which go to UMCOR.   There are a couple other projects in the works, too. In November, they will participate in a Craft Fair and sell items to help raise money for our projects throughout the year.  Each member will create items for sale.

School Kits

In some countries, children don’t have books or school supplies. Many have no schoolrooms; classes are held in inadequate or half-destroyed buildings, tents, or even the open air. School kits may be these children’s only educational resources.  School Kit Materials are listed below.  Each School Kit is Valued at $11 per kit.

School Kit Materials

  • 1 pair blunt scissors
  • 3 pads of paper
  • 1 hand-held pencil sharpener
  • 1 30-centimeter ruler
  • 6 unsharpened pencils
  • 1 2-inch or larger-size eraser
  • 1 24-count box of crayons
  • 1 14×16 inch cloth bag

More about UMCOR

umcor logoThe United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe.  UMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church, and our goal is to assist the most vulnerable persons affected by crisis or chronic need without regard to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.  We believe all people have God-given worth and dignity.  Elkhorn Hills UMC supports UMCOR through our mission shares.

UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States.  We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.  UMCOR provides these survivors not only temporary relief but long-term education, training, and support.

UMCOR spends 100 percent of designated donations on the projects our donors specify. When UMCOR donors give their time, money, and supplies, they join UMCOR as the hands and feet of Christ.
