EHUMC 2016 Missions

Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church’s mission statement reads as follows:
“Sharing the Love for Jesus Christ by Serving Others”
Since the inception of this church the members of the congregation strive to live this statement.  There are many ways we can accomplish this; however, during the summer months, we involve ourselves with Mission Trips.
  • Volunteer in Mission (VIM) Teams.

We provide overnight accommodations for out-of-state Volunteer in Mission (VIM) Teams throughout the United Methodist Great Plains Conference.  This year, EHUMC was pleased to host 3 visiting VIM Teams during the month of July.  These groups came to us from Wamego, KS, Wichita, KS and Urbandale, IA. Each group consisted of middle high youth and their sponsors.  While in Omaha, they worked on several projects to help better the lives of those in need. This included spending time spreading mulch at Together, Inc., working in several Big Gardens in north and south Omaha, volunteering at the Open Door Mission and at the Lydia House.

As always, members of Elkhorn Hills helped share our love of Jesus Christ by not only providing a place to stay, but by baking homemade cookies and providing a meal for each team either at the church or in their home. We try to make these very special visitors feel welcome and appreciated!
  • Middle High Mission Trip

Besides receiving teams to our church we also send our teams to do God’s work.  In June, 13 Middle High youth and 6 adult chaperones departed from EHUMC to serve in Kansas City, Missouri, for the weekend. At HopeFaith Ministries in inner-city Kansas City, MO, they served the homeless a meal, helped unload and sort hygiene products and organized the warehouse. The next day, the team was at Avenue of Life in Kansas City, KS. where they helped serve food, cleaned up the garden and playground area, pulled and cleaned vegetables and cleaned the building.

  • Senior High Mission Trip
In July, 10 Senior High youth and 5 chaperones headed to Pine Ridge, South Dakota to serve the community there throughout the week.  They were able to experience a community event at Lakota Hope in White Clay, NE one evening and enjoyed this interaction with the residents of Pine Ridge, White
Clay and other VIM teams who were there to serve. Our team helped at the Community Center sanding, taping and mudding drywall and also put siding, windows and framed walls on a new addition at one of the resident’s home.
  • Jamaica
The mission trip Elkhorn Hills has repeated over the years is the mission trip to Jamaica.  This is where a medical team takes supplies and provides care to those in need.  Other ministries are also provided to the children during their stay along with various work projects.  This summer we again are part of this mission trip.
These VIM trips are wonderful experiences for ALL and at Elkhorn Hills we are especially thankful that we may “Share the Love for Jesus Christ by serving others”!
