Today we joyfully welcomed these ten persons into our Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church family through their Profession of Faith: Tyler Grabher, Jenna Paul, Nathaniel Robinson, Connor Gress, Elizabeth Beeson, Meg Carney, Gage Hageman, Sarah Riddell, Patrick Swan, and Carlos Cooke.
Pastor Nancy led the congregation through the Baptismal Covenant Service.
Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.
Through confirmation, and through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy church.
These members received congratulations, well wishes, and special gifts from the congregation.
This year’s mentors were Jon Holtz, Patty Langan, Jim Martin, and Connie Rance. The mentors met every week with the confirmands, did homework every week, participated in the mission work days, and prepared their own faith statement and poster.
Thank you, mentors, for your dedication and work with these students, and for sharing your love of Jesus Christ by serving others.
Youth Ministries Director Jenny Louis gave the message about “Diving In.” She spoke about how a person’s faith journey is like diving off the high board. Like it says in Joshua 1:9
Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Sometimes we are afraid because we don’t know what to expect. It takes preparation, trust and taking that leap of faith with God to become a true disciple. We need to trust that our journey will be worth it. Dive in; trust that God is with you and protecting you through your journey.
Prior to the Confirmation service, the fifth and sixth graders and their families treated the members of the 2015 Confirmation Class and their families to a special breakfast in the Family Life Center. Delicious muffins, bagels, fresh fruit were served along with juice, milk and coffee. Parent Heather McBeth coordinated the breakfast.
Thank you to all who participated in providing the wonderful meal on this special day.
