The first annual chaperone fundraiser sponsored by the Elkhorn Hills GRACE Sunday school class was a rousing success! A Comedy Night and Dinner was held on Feb. 6th from 7 – 9 pm to raise funds for chaperones on the youth mission trips this summer. Many Elkhorn Hills members, friends, and visitors attended the event, which sold out! Additionally, many generous members who were not able to attend donated to this worthy cause. Numerous door prizes were awarded by the Master of Ceremonies, Tom Beeson, who opened and closed the evening with jokes, information, and prayer.
The Family Life Center was transformed into an Italian dinner theatre for a delightful evening of good food, fellowship, and Christian comedy. The ambient lighting, white linen table cloths, candles, and greenery reflected the tone of the relaxed, enjoyable evening. The warm greeting and friendly way the GRACE class members personally escorted guests to their tables made the evening really special. The lasagna dinner (catered by Sam & Louie’s), salad, and breadsticks was filling, and the delicious dessert of tiramisu was prepared by our own Kim Jirgenson.
The good, clean comedy was provided by Tim Hawkins via big screen. Mr. Hawkins is a Christian comedian, songwriter, and singer, best known for parodying popular songs, such as Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel” and “The Candy Man”. His stand-up material is based on marriage, homeschooling and parenting. He has a wife and four children- three boys and a girl.
Some memorable moments included bits about cassette tapes, hand sanitizer, and “Chick-Fil-A.” If Pastor Nancy plans a sermon series on “Being a Twinkie in a Ding Dong World,” we’ll know where she got the idea! 🙂
About the Comedian
Since giving up his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002, Tim Hawkins has been forging the magical blend between two comedic ideals: A genuinely funny comedy show that caters to the entire family.
What sets him apart? Some would say it is his equally gifted and twisted approach to the medium. His stand-up material is vigorous, well-timed, and honed to perfection. And his music? It stands on its own. However, the connection he makes with his fans goes deeper than that. His ability to show the brokenness of our human nature and simultaneously marvel in its hilarity makes Tim such a unique artist.
Hawkins has released five CDs and six DVDs since 2002.
Many thanks to the entire GRACE Sunday school class for putting together this event. Special thanks to Darla Langendorfer and Patty Langan for the idea and for planning and organizing it. Thanks to Kim Jirgenson for her baking expertise and kitchen organization. The wonderful decorating was done by the talented duo of Jared Rodman and Lena Beeson. Chris Eidam capably supervised the child care, and Jenny Louis coordinated the many youth volunteers who kept the drink glasses filled, provided the timely table service, helped with child care, and cleaned up.
