Elkhorn Hills UMC is a great place that cares for the youth in our community. The Elkhorn Hills UMC Missions Committee has arranged to provide a hot meal to the youth served by Youth Emergency Services (YES) once a month, and our first meal was a success! The youth loved the meal of fried chicken, cheesy potatoes, oranges, grapes, brownies and dessert. These kids came in hungry and we helped to fill them up not only with physical food to meet their immediate needs, but with a sense that people care. A big “Thank You” to everyone who donated cash to purchase the chicken and to those who donated drinks, paper products and all of the other food items. Check out the photos below.
The March meal of hot soup and sandwiches will be provided by the Triple F dining group. The April 13 meal includes hot dogs, homemade macaroni casseroles as well as a side and dessert. As we get closer to the April date, we will be looking for volunteers to assist. If you would like to be part of the mission opportunity, either by donating food items or money to purchase the food, contact LuAnn Dritley.
Thank you for helping to share the love of Jesus to these youth.
The mission of YES is to serve homeless and at-risk youth by providing critically-needed resources which empower them to become self-sufficient. Basically, they help youth in crisis get back to their feet in whatever ways they can. After meeting immediate needs for food, shelter, clothing and safety, YES creates a support system to help them flourish. YES envisions a community which understands and embraces its youth, creating an environment where youth homelessness no longer exists.
