Our Children's Ministries programs include weekly Sunday school, Children's Choir, Acolyting, weekly offering via "Mine-o-saur the Dinosaur," Vacation Bible School, summer Sunday school, Nursery and cry room, a Children's Christmas Program, and other fun and seasonal events.  We also try to include our children with worship service in as many ways as possible, including a children's sermon at each service.  Also, our children are invited to participate in communion on a regular basis.

Our Children's Ministries program also includes Elkhorn Hills Preschool, which offers 3 weekday classes (a 2-day program, a 3-day program, and a 4-day program).  In addition, Elkhorn Hills Preschool is offering a Parents Day Out program on Wednesdays.

Elkhorn Hills UMC is also pleased to announce that Kindermusik classes are being offered at our church.  Prenosil Music Studios is offering those classes to the community and our church is its newest location.  (Refer to class information elsewhere on this website.)

"Safe Sanctuary Information"

Elkhorn Hills UMC has a Safe Sanctuary Policy that outlines our procedures regarding the safety of children and volunteers.  All volunteers who work with children are asked to complete a volunteer packet, which includes an application, references, permission for a background check, agreement to comply with our volunteer covenant, etc.  In addition, our church offers Safe Sanctuary Training twice a year for volunteers and parents.

For more information, check the United Methodist Conference website (http://www.umcneb.org/ministries/safe_sanctuaries/index.htm).  Any questions can be answered by Pastor Lee Johnson and/or the Safe Sanctuary Coordinator.

Sunday School

Sunday school classes are offered during the 10:15 worship service.  Classes include:

Beginner (ages 2 1/2 - 4); The teachers focus on simple bible stories, fun crafts, lots of playtime, and, of course, snacks!  This class uses the Rock-A-Bye curriculum and focuses on introducing children to Christianity.

Pre-K (ages 4 and 5); This class is for children ages 4 and 5.  During class students will listen to bible stories, play games, act out scenes from the bible, make crafts, and eat snacks.  This class uses the Hands on Bible curriculum and teaches wonderful biblical principals.

Kindergarten; This class is for children in Kindergarten.  During class students will listen to bible stories, play games, act out scenes from the bible, make crafts, and eat snacks.  This class uses the Hands on Bible curriculum and teaches wonderful biblical principals.

1st Grade and 2nd Grade;  Students in the 1st and 2nd grade classes use the Hands on Bible curriculum to delve a little bit deeper into the bible.  They will play lots of games, act out scenes from the bible, and try to learn how to connect pieces of the bible together.

3rd Grade;  Third grade is a very important year for our students at Elkhorn Hills.  They each receive a bible, and much of the Sunday school time is spent learning how to use it.  The students will learn how to find bible verses, learn the difference between the old and new testaments, and they will also study some of the wonderful stories from the bible.

4th and 5th Grade; This is a very hands-on class that the students always enjoy!  They will study ways to take biblical principals and apply them to everyday life.  They always have lots of fun, but they always learn great things.

6th-8th Grades:  Middle School Sunday school will meet on the stage this year, and they will continue to study the bible and talk about life.  Join them for some great discussions!

9th-12th Grade:  High school Sunday school meets in the youth room, where they always have a great time.  This fun-loving group is very welcoming, so join them.

Adult Sunday school classes are also offered during the 10:15 worship service.

Children's Choir

Children's Choir and Cherub Choir Details are being finalized for this season.

Nursery

The Nursery is open and available for both the 8:45 and 10:15 services.  Barb Sheppard is the nursery attendant, and is assisted each week by a volunteer from our congregation.   Barb is a member of church and is a teacher at Kiewit Middle School.  The Nursery space can safely accommodate 8 children.  There is also a cry room available, where parents can stay with their child.  The cry room is equipped with a speaker system so you can hear the activities in the service while rocking or tending to you child.

Children in Worship Services

Acolyte - Children in 3rd grade and older can serve as acolytes at either the 8:45 or 10:15 service.  Contact Sheri Trapp for information on acolyting.

Quiet Bag Ministry - Quiet bags include coloring pages, lacing activities, and stories.  The bags are located outside the sanctuary.

Child safety seats - If you choose to bring your young infant or toddler with you to church, child safety seats are available to attach to the pews.

Vacation Bible School

Join us for a "High Seas Expedition" when we will be exploring the mighty love of God on June 13-17th from 6 - 8:30 p.m.  Friday, June 18th will be a "fun family night."  Mark your calendars now!

Children between the ages of 3 years and 5th grade can participate.  A snack supper is usually available for a nominal cost from 5:30 to 6.   A Nursery is available for volunteers.  We welcome volunteers of all ages to come for one night or each night.  There are many opportunities for volunteers.  The following Sunday we like to have as many participants come to sing in worship as possible.  This gives our congregation a glimpse into the fun and learning that took place the previous week.  Please join us!

Children's Christmas Program

Each year we have a children's Christmas Program.  This is held the second Sunday of December at 6 p.m.  The program is generally followed by refreshments in the Family Life Center, and a "special guest" comes by to greet the children.
